Congratulations Ashley Vickers, Newly Appointed Whitewater EMS Chief

Ashley Vickers

Congratulations Ashley Vickers! Ashley was recently promoted to EMS Chief with the Whitewater Fire Department Incorporated. If that is not enough to celebrate, she is the first female to hold this position in the organization. The fire department was established in 1871 and the EMS department in 1927. What an amazing honor to be the first female EMS Chief in an organization almost 100 years old!

Vickers has many years of experience working as the EMS Coordinator with Mercy Health. She previously served as a lieutenant and captain for Whitewater EMS and is an AEMT (Advanced Emergency Medical Technician). Her past experience will greatly benefit the department as the new chief.

As EMS Chief, Vickers will be in charge of staffing, scheduling, quality assurance, public relations, recruitment and of course continue to run EMS calls.

Vickers is very excited to step into this new role and proud to be the first female to do so, wanting to expand the department and their level of service from AEMT to Paramedic.

Of course there are challenges in all positions and careers. “There are staffing shortages nationwide in EMS and Whitewater is no different, however we are willing to train and work with anyone who shows an interest and passion for the job, wanting to help their community,” Vickers said.

The Whitewater Fire Department has paid-on-call positions for those who can make a call with a five minute response time and paid-on-premise positions for those who live further away and need to stay at the station for their shift. The department is looking to expand services and have more people available at the station around the clock as call volumes continue to increase.

Those interested to apply for a fire or EMS position are encouraged to apply at A scholarship program is also available for UW-Whitewater students interested in pursuing EMS while attending school in Whitewater.

“I am looking forward to bring the department to a new level and feel my experience and love for what I do will help to do just that,” said Vickers.
