Whitewater, WI - 04/07/2017 (9:00 PM)
At 1:50 pm the Whitewater Police Department responded to the area of the Whitewater Middle School regarding Daniel S. Erdman (M/W 07/13/1985), a Whitewater resident, who was reported as having a weapon in his waistband on school property and described as being ‘out of it’. Erdman was confronted by a parent outside of the Whitewater Middle School. The school resource officer was notified of the situation and law enforcement responded.
Erdman left the school and was eventually located at a family member’s home at 1033 West Walworth Ave. The officers observed Erdman in the residence and requested that he come outside and speak with them, to which he refused.
At approximately 2:30 pm the Whitewater Police Department, along with the assistance of officers from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Police Services, Walworth County Sheriff’s Office and Wisconsin State Patrol setup a perimeter around the residence. Assistance was requested from the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team, complimented by members of the Town of Delavan and the City of Lake Geneva Police Departments.
At approximately 7:00 pm Erdman was taken into custody without incident. There were no injuries sustained by anyone during the incident and no other individuals were located in the residence. The Walworth County District Attorney’s Office will be consulted on charges.
The Whitewater Police Department would like to thank the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Police Services, the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office, the Wisconsin State Patrol and the Whitewater Rescue Squad for their assistance in the safe and peaceful resolution of the incident.
Faculty, staff and students are allowed to return to the school parking lots to retrieve vehicles and personal belongings. Thank you to the Whitewater Unified School District and parents of the students for your cooperation and patience.
