The Neighborhood Services and Downtown Whitewater are encouraging Parklets. Parklets are extensions of the sidewalk to create additional space within urban landscapes.
Originated on the west coast in 2008, Parklets offer businesses an endless array of possibilities for customizing the space to cater their unique business. Benefits to the Parklets will increase outdoor seating while allowing enough space for pedestrians and not impede ADA; they increase the visibility for businesses and vehicular traffic, and will create opportunities for the community to interact with pedestrians.
The Parklet ordinance Chapter 5.16 passed in 2015 and Downtown Whitewater has developed plans to help offset building costs.
