Sister City- Bay St. Louis, Mississippi
Sister City- Bay St. Louis, Mississippi
On August 29, 2005 Hurricane Katrina devastated the gulf coast and has been determined to be the worst natural disaster in US history. In November of 2005, The City of Whitewater, by unanimous proclamation, adopted the City of Bay St Louis Mississippi as its first Sister City.
Famous Historian Stephen Ambrose grew up in Whitewater Wisconsin and during later years of his life, lived in Bay St Louis. The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater named its health center after Ambrose’s father. It was this natural connection and a desire to help restore Bay St Louis from Katrina’s wrath that drew Whitewater to help in any way.
To date, Whitewater has donated about $80,000 to various projects and about 7,000 hour of labor to our Sister City. We will continue this long term relationship and commitment until our Sister City is once again “A Place Apart”. We join Bay St Louis’s other sister cities of Port Townsend Washington, Nutley New Jersey, Wayzata Minnesota, Monterey California and Moore County North Carolina in this massive rebuilding effort.
Please help us continue our work by your monetary or in-kind tax deductable donation made payable to: Whitewater Sister City Fund, PO Box 117 Whitewater Wi 53190.
